This week’s Parasha is Vayeishev. Here is a short summary and picture I drew to go along with a scene in the Parasha. Hope y’all enjoy and have a great end of the week! 🙂
Jacob moves to Hebron with his twelve sons. Jacob presents a vibrant colorful coat that he made to his favorite son Joseph. Joseph’s eleven other brothers become extremely jealous of the special treatment he received from his father Jacob. When Joseph shows off his new fancy coat to his brothers he also tells them about two dreams he had. Joseph explains to them that in the future, he will be ruling over them. This created even more tension and hatred between them.
Joseph’s brothers come up with a master plan containing three parts to get revenge on Joseph for being the favorite child. The first part is Joseph’s brother Reuben throws him into a pit. But instead of leaving Joseph in the pit, Reuben and his other brothers would “find and save” Joseph and bring him to their father a couple days later. The second part of the plan was while Joseph was in the pit, Judah, his other brother sold him to a group of Ishmaelite’s. And for the last part, the eleven brothers fake Joseph’s death by taking his special colorful coat and drench it in the blood of a goat. Then they brought it to their father, having Jacob believe that Joseph was eaten alive even though he was still in the pit.
The picture below shows the time when Joseph receives the techno-colored coat from his father, Jacob.
