*2,300-year-old village discovered on road leading to Jerusalem*
A recent dig reveals small rural settlement with stone houses; each building housed a single nuclear family, consisted of several rooms and an open courtyard. Researchers believe that the village was occupied for two centuries during the Second Temple period located near the ‘Burma Road’. They also believe this village reached its peak during the Hellenistic period. Archeologists have found many things such as basalt and limestone grinding and milling tools for domestic use, pottery cooking pots, jars for storing liquids (oil and wine,) pottery oil lamps for domestic use, and over sixty coins.
*Double glory for Eilat surfers*
The Israel Windsurfing National Championships were recently held in Eilat this Sunday. Shahar Zubari won the men’s title while Naomi Cohen claimed the women’s title. It was a tight race for Cohen as she went on to win Sunday with a single point victory on Hadar Heller. “It is always great to win the national championships, especially at home,” said Zubari. Both Zubari and Cohen are from Eilat. Although we may not be that good in the Winter Olympics, we can always look forward to Windsurfing in the Summer Olympics.
