Shalom shalom, HaNegev!
I hope you’re all having an AWESOME week, and for those of you in Ein Gedi, I hope you’re getting pumped for the best weekend of your lives! Read on to see what’s going on in Israel, but unfortunately, there are no Israel Challenge questions this week.
Pop stars ignore spiteful BDS movement, continue coming to Israel
Throughout the world, an anti-Semitic measure known as the “Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions” movement aims to take business away from Israel and destroy its economy by, for instance, urging celebrities not to hold concerts there. However, this clearly is not working, exemplified by the fact that numerous talented musicians will come to Israel to perform in the coming months. Justin Timberlake is stopping there on his world tour, as are Cyndi Lauper; Rihanna and Alicia Keys performed last month. In fact, Paula Abdul just had her Bat Mitzvah there! Clearly, the good people of Israel are challenging the cruel BDS movement in a positive, enlightening way. Am Yisrael Chai!
AIPAC’s High School Summit
This past Sunday to Tuesday was the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s annual High School Summit, an event where passionate high school students get to go to Washington to learn to lobby, and then actually do it! Below, the raving commentaries from the lucky USYers that got to attend:
Eliza Lebovitz, a junior from Ein Gedi: “Attending the Schusterman Advocacy Institute High School Summit with AIPAC was a life-changing experience! Over the course of three days I learned so much about our relationship with Israel and how important it is to keep that relationship strong. I had the opportunity to lobby my Congressman and advocate for what I believe we should be doing to keep Israel strong.”
Noah Levin, a senior from Mercaz: “I had a great time! It was a very educational experience that allowed me to understand what I can do to become a better advocate for AIPAC and for Israel. I am more than excited to continue learning about and working with AIPAC.”
Jamie Shear, a junior from Arvot: “It was super inspiring, and if you didn’t have a solid reason before, it gives you many reasons to truly support the American-Israel relationship through speeches about people’s stories and facts about policy.”
AIPAC is an incredible organization, I urge you all to look into it and learn about it. It does exceptional work for Israel and its relationship with America. I look forward to creating a stronger relationship between this organization and USY!
Keep it real, HaNegev, and have a wonderful shabbas!
