Gantz: IDF wants haredi enlistment, will protect their religious identity
On Wednesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gantz praised haredi soldiers, saying the army wants more ultra orthodox soldiers to serve, while maintaining their religious identity. He also announced, in the same Knesset meeting, that requisite funds would be provided for a greater number of Haredi soldiers. The current enlistment allows Haredi soldiers to enter at the age 21, after they have married and began having children.
‘5 Broken Cameras’ clinches International Emmy Award
The movie ‘5 Broken Cameras’, co-directed by Guy Davidi and Ehmad Burnat, tells a clear story of Palestinian nonviolent resistance over several years in documentary form. It won the award for best documentary and is currently an Oscar nominee. Also, Burnat is the first Palestinian to win the Emmy.
I hope all of you are as excited as I am about Thanksgivikkuh! This might be the only time for nearly 80,000 years that we’ll be able to eat potato latke dressing with our turkey, so let’s relish the moment. But, as the Hebrew calendar fluctuates yearly, Hanukkah is likely to coincide with some other American holidays before being on Thanksgiving again.
