Shabbat Shalom HaNegev! My name is Carly Rosner and I am the Education Chair on the Rel/Ed General Board!
This week’s Parasha is Vayishlach. Here is a short summary and picture I made to go along with a scene in the parasha. Hope y’all enjoy and have a great end of the week! : )
Jacob returns to Canaan and has to face his brother Esav after running away from him and home after 20 years. Jacob has his messengers take a message of forgiveness to Esav; but Esav does not want to makeup. Jacob then sends him a lavishing gift of hundreds of sheep. However, Esav still wants to start a battle. Jacob is scared for his family so he takes them across then Jabbok River in a boat in order for them to be protected. However, Jacob stays behind and fights with the spirit of Esav until dawn. After their long fight they hug and makeup! Once they forgive each other, they go their own ways and Jacob journeys on to Shechem where his daughter Dinah is rapped. After that incident Rachel dies while giving birth to Benjamin. Jacob’s long journey finally ends when he goes to Hebron to be with his father Issac who is very sick.
The picture below portrays the scene of when Esav and Jacob finally stop fighting. Esav’s spirt gives up the battle once the sun rises. The brothers then hug and forgive each other after 20 long years!
