Yom Tov Hanegev! I’m Will Finkelstein, Ein Gedi Israeli Advocacy Correspondent and resident of Macon, GA (google it). I’m looking forward to occasionally keeping you in “the know” about what’s going on Israel, so here are a couple of big stories from this week!
PM Netanyahu Plans to Meet with the pope for the first time
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to fly to the Vatican on October 23, where he will speak with Pope Francis and US Secretary of State John Kerry about the ongoing struggle with Iran and potential peace options. This will be Netanyahu’s first meeting with the pope, who has already met with Israeli president Peres and K’nesset speaker Edelstein.
Onavo bought out by Facebook for over $100 million.
Onavo, a Tel Aviv based technology company known for creating apps for tracking cell phone usage, is being bought by Facebook for an undecided price between $100 and $200 million. While it will become the third Israeli company to be bought out by Facebook, it will be the first one to remain in Israel, where it will serve as a Research and Development Center for Zuckerberg’s world giant.
Don’t forget to play Israel Challenge. You could end up winning some pretty cool prizes for HaNegev, while setting yourselves up for a world of bragging rights (isn’t that the best prize of all?) 😉
