My name’s Jasmine Hubara, and I’m your Rel/Ed Correspondent for Ein Gedi from COSY in Charleston, SC.
This week’s parsha is Vayeira and I wanted to share some thoughts about it:
When given the chance to get something you’ve always wanted, would you be thankful for the opportunity or be incredulous that the chance had finally shown itself? This week’s parsha, Vayeira, talks about one of my favorite moments in the Torah: Sarah laughs at G/d’s promise to give her a child. Both she and her husband are old, and it seems impossible that they could have children at their age. But G/d makes that magical thing called a miracle and grants them a child. It always shocked me that Sarah would laugh at G/d, as if she didn’t truly believe what he was saying. Who would possibly doubt G/d? But she wasn’t doubting him: she was admiring how there wasn’t anything He couldn’t do.
I personally know that sometimes the things I’ve been hoping for or even need can come exactly after I needed them. But they do always arrive. And it’s better late than never, right? (As if by perfect coincidence, this is exactly what happened to me with USY: I found it just after I wanted it but right after I needed it.) And doesn’t the waiting make it all the more worthwhile in the end?
We can take this as a reminder in our own lives that sometimes the things we want aren’t always going to come to us exactly when we need them to. So ask yourself, where are your miracles? Did they ever present themselves right when you needed them to?
Step back, look around you, and remind yourself that you are blessed with miracles, no matter when they’ve arrived.
And now, some Rel/Ed News (YAY!):
This weekend we’ve also got some more great Rel/Ed things coming your way – an international project called Torah Bytes! Torah Bytes are webinars held every other week on Sunday evenings for the Hanegev, Hagesher, ECRUSY, and Seaboard regions. Each webinar is about a modern issue and the Jewish take on it! USYers from all over tune in to learn together so it’s a great opportunity to also see who else is out there in our little USY world! Click on the Facebook event link to find out more about this Sunday’s Bytes and to, of course, RSVP!! https://www.facebook.com/events/676777309013806/
Have a great week!
